Lifesaving & Diving Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran

In 1935, for the first time lifesaving techniques were instructed in summer camp classes in the north of Tehran for the sports coaches by Mr. Gibson, an overseas sport consultant.

One of the prominent students of this course was Mr. Banaie. In 1938, swimming and lifesaving techniques had been instructed for the students of “Tehran Physical Education College” by Mr. Banaie till 1944.

Since then Mr. Dawood Nasiri, one of the students of these courses, became responsible for the “Iran Lifesaving Organisation”.

In 1963, the full membership of the F.I.S. was achieved.

In 1974, the name of the “Iran Lifesaving Organisation” changed to “Iran Lifesaving Federation” with highly new and further responsibilities, and Mr. Nasiri was appointed as a first president of this new lifesaving body. In this year the full membership of W.L.S. was obtained.

In 1979, by the Islamic Revolution of the People of Iran, the presidency of the Federation was handed to some of the distinguished persons, who were experts in lifesaving’s affairs.

The present directorate was selected in 1990. Since then, long and rigid paces in lifesaving, diving and hydrotherapy have been taken.

Iran is also full member of CMAS and one of the main and major OCC in the region.
