The ILS Sport Commission has met in Riccione, Italy, the venue for the next Lifesaving World Championships to be held in September 2020 (LWC 2020). This gave the Sport Commission members the chance to experience the competition venues that will be used for LWC 2020, as well as sample the quality of some of the hotels that will be used to accommodate at least 7,000 participants.
Led by ILS Sport Commission Chair Dave Thompson AM and Secretary Jelle Meintsma, the meeting approved a number of important rule changes that will be published in the next edition of the ILS Competition Rulebook and the ILS Championships Handbook later this year. The Commission also discussed the future format of the National Teams Championships and agreed unanimously on the proposal that is to be put to the ILS Board at its meeting in Durban in October 2019 for approval.
The Co-Ordination Committee (CoCom) meeting between the ILS and FIN for LWC 2020 was held after the Commission meeting. The CoCom meeting members for the ILS and FIN were:
- Dr Harald Vervaecke PhD – ILS Secretary General (Meeting Chair)
- Dave Thompson AM – ILS Sport Commission Chair

- Karin Obus – ILS Executive Director
- John Martin MBE – ILS Event Director
- Giorgio Quintavalle – FIN
