Members of the ILS Sport Commission and the ILS Event Director travelled to Adelaide for a very successful Co-ordination Committee (CoCom) meeting with the Lifesaving World Championships Adelaide 2018 Local Organising Committee (LOC)from 8th to 11th September 2017.
The main focus of the meeting was to look in detail at the planning for the delivery of this important event in November 2018. The full agenda included a walk-through of the operational plans, site visits to the Ocean venue at Glenelg, and the South Australia Aquatic & Leisure Centre pool, and a check of the proposed Accreditation Centre and the Briefing Room at the Beach House.
The ILS team – Dave Thompson, Jelle Meintsma, Greg Allum and John Martin were delighted with the progress that has been made. John Martin, the ILS Event Director said “we are very pleased with the achievements of the Local Organising Committee to date, and believe, with them, that they are very much on course to deliver the best ever Lifesaving World Championships. The support of additional volunteers from South Australia was also very evident and we were made to feel very welcome. The 2018 Championships are very much on track and it was a very positive meeting.”
The CoCom will now focus on launching the Registration system for LWC Adelaide 2018 within the next month and publishing the Championships Handbook. The LOC will also be focusing on increasing communications to all potential participants, and are looking to make contact with all lifesaving clubs across the world. All ILS federations are asked to assist them by providing contact details for their clubs as soon as possible.
