  • New ILS Members: El Salvador, Jamaica, Phuket and Israel

    ILS welcomes the member organisations from El Salvador, Jamaica, Phuket (Thailand) and Israel into ILS Membership.

  • Dr Matthew Sill Medical Fellow 2016/2019

    ILS established a Medical Fellowship in honour of Dr. Ian Mackie, MD in order to continue his contribution to the international lifesaving community. The Fellowship provides young lifesavers and lifeguards with a link to the ILS Medical Committee continuing Dr. Mackie's belief in the importance of the link between medical issues and their practical application by lifesavers and lifeguards.

  • Lifesaving World Championships Handbook & ILS Competition Rule Book

    In the 2015 update of the ILS Competition Manual, the ILS Sport Commission separated content that addresses the Lifesaving World Championships specifically from content that addresses the
    rules, procedures and standards for lifesaving sport competition generally.

    This resulted in two new publications: the Lifesaving World Championships Handbook and the ILS Competition Rule Book, which can be found here.

  • New USLA President

    ILS wishes to congratulate Peter Davis for his recent election as President of the USLA. He brings experience as Galveston's chief and extensive work in the USLA, the ILS Americas Region and ILS.

  • ILS Drowning Prevention Strategies

    The ILS Drowning Prevention Strategies (2015) have been added to the website. This third edition of Drowning Prevention Strategies, A framework to reduce drowning deaths in the aquatic environment for nations/regions engaged in lifesaving, reviews strategies that have been introduced within member federations.

  • 60th Anniversary Hong Kong Life Saving Society

    The Hong Kong Life Saving Society (HKLSS) celebrated her Diamond Jubilee after 60 years of glorious lifesaving operations in grand style on Sunday, 8th Nov night with a sit down dinner for over 500 lifesavers in a huge hall. There were many awards and acknowledgements. The ILS President Graham FORD, and Vice-Presidents Mohamed SALEH MD and DR. Detlev MOHR PhD were there to share HKLSS's proud happiness.

  • The Science of Beach Lifeguarding - New book

    ILS members can save 15% on a new book, The Science of Beach Lifeguarding, edited by Professor of Human & Applied Physiology, Mike Tipton, and Director of Rescue Marine Services Ltd, Adam Wooler. The book is an accessible and informative reference underpinned by the best current research.

  • International Lifesaving Caps of the World

    The 'International Lifesaving Caps of the World' is a unique register featuring competition caps from all full member countries of International Lifesaving. This is the first and only international register of its kind. The register highlights the ‘national’ cap for each full member country and lists the clubs and teams in alphabetical order. Caps can be searched by country or by colour groupings, assisting referees, media and the public in identifying the country, club or team during competition.

  • Volunteers rescue migrants along Greek coastlines

    The Hellenic Red Cross – Division of Samaritans, Rescuers and Lifeguards has mobilised its volunteers and resources to support the organisation and the International Federation of Red Cross operations nationwide. The Water Rescue and Drowning Prevention section of the Red Cross has placed teams of volunteers from all over Greece, providing assistance in a rotation system per week, especially on the island of Lesbos. Those teams patrol the beaches, report to the Hellenic Coastguard when boats are on distress away from the coast, and provide assistance/rescue when people are near the coast.

  • The new ERC Guidelines on Resuscitation

    On October 15th 2015, the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) launched the new European Guidelines for CPR, based on new scientific evidence published since the last revision five years ago.
