Volunteers rescue migrants along Greek coastlines

The Hellenic Red Cross – Division of Samaritans, Rescuers and Lifeguards has mobilised its volunteers and resources to support the organisation and the International Federation of Red Cross operations nationwide. The Water Rescue and Drowning Prevention section of the Red Cross has placed teams of volunteers from all over Greece, providing assistance in a rotation system per week, especially on the island of Lesbos. Those teams patrol the beaches, report to the Hellenic Coastguard when boats are on distress away from the coast, and provide assistance/rescue when people are near the coast. Additionally to rescue services, they provide first aid and support their transport to Emergency Shelters and/or Medical Stations for further support.
