The Lifesaving Federation of The Islamic Republic of Iran reports on its latest lifesaving development activities.

Many first and second grade lifesaving, hydrotherapy, diving, C.P.R and instructor courses were held.

The statistics of these courses are:

  • 370 first grade lifeguards
  • 1738 second grade lifeguards
  • 40 hydro therapists
  • 1000 rescue divers
  • 25 international diving instructors

Last year 185 persons drowned and 4283 persons were rescued. Attempts to decrease the number of drownings by establishing beach stations and appointing lifeguards on beaches especially in non-protective and blind areas is continuing.

These training programmes have included workshops on water and beach safety, C.P.R and rescue held in coastal areas of Iran such as Gilan, Mazandaran, Kish and Qeshm Islands with the presence of several interested people.

Several lifesaving courses also held in Middle East countries such as Bahrain, Syria, U.A.E, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Iraq. There were 150 people who successfully participated in these courses.

A ceremony was held in honour of those Middle East’s clubs which are involved in lifesaving competition, developing women aquatic sport centre, instruction of swimming and lifesaving. In this ceremony an honour tablet and special commemoration cup was granted in appreciation for their efforts.

The Iranian Federation holds its Women and Men Nationals and the Middle East’s Lifesaving championships in Iran annually in order to refresh the lifeguards and increase their abilities. The Iranian National Lifesaving team reached first place in all previous Middle East lifesaving Competitions.

The 2007 Middle East Lifesaving Championships will be held on September 2007 in Iran.
