Society for the Saving of Drowning Victims

Maatschappij tot Redding van Drenkelingen (MRD) was founded in 1767 to promote all forms of initiatives to lower the incidence of drowning in the Netherlands and to promote the reanimation of drowned persons.

The Maatschappij implements this goal:

  • By supplying information to the public on rescue and reanimation methods.
  • By funding research into the prevention of drowning.
  • By awarding medals and framed certificates to individuals for successful rescue attempts.

De Maatschappij tot Redding van Drenkelingen is Corresponding Member since 2001.

In 2002, the MRD organised the first World Congress on Drowning with participation of over 1500 persons.
